Hello! I know that you can't see me right now, but imagine I'm sitting across from you at your favourite coffee shop with a smile on my face (and a delicious hot chocolate in hand). And imagine we're about to get to know each other really well. Let's also pretend my diet is going really well so I can afford to eat this big slice of chocolate cake. Before I get into all of the details about myself, I'll start by telling you my name. I think that's a good place to start, after all. My name is Josie Hooper and I'm a happily married mother of two. Two Batman obsessed boys -- yes, they're a (sometimes) joyous handful -- aged two and four.
I'm not just a mum, though. I have other loves in my life: cake, chocolate (just all food in general actually), Harry Potter, Elementary, Polaroid cameras, house plants, looking at million pound houses on Rightmove just in case I win the lottery, Pinterest, the few days after Easter when all the chocolate is cheap, Christmas (plus the few days after when all the presents for the next year are cheap), succulents, the opening scene of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 and pretend shopping on Anthropologie.
I love my job; I love photographing weddings. Capturing that "zing" between a couple in love - the adoration for each other that's written on their faces is priceless. Being surrounded by all that love is just another perk of my job because I'm a romantic at heart. I approach each wedding with a very relaxed and informal 'hands off' approach as I want you to lose yourself in your day and enjoy it with your friends and family, not worry about looking out for the camera. I'll blend in to the background while looking out to capture those special moments of real emotion. I certainly won't ask you to pose and smile for the camera as I believe the emotions you see in each image should be authentic. However, I will very lightly guide you and suggest locations that show you at your best.
If I'm a good fit for you then maybe we can go to that coffee shop for real? Call me!
What to expect on your big day..
When I say all day coverage, I mean all day coverage! I am literally with you from the early morning of your wedding day to the late evening hours of your reception shindig. Only I'm not all in your face paparazzo style the whole time. For most of your day, you'll hardly even know I'm there snapping away. That means a weight off your shoulders and lots of time to spend having fun with your guests.
I start the day by photographing you getting ready. Don't worry, I know it's early and you're probably a bag of nerves but I'll make sure to ease you into having a camera pointed at you for the next 12 or so hours getting a variety of shots. Think detail shots, you slipping into your beautiful dress, a crowd of happy bridesmaids in their slouchy sweatpants and impeccable hair. The same is true for the groomsmen, too. If they're nearby and I have enough time, I'll capture them getting ready, fastening boutonnieres to their lapels, candids of dad giving the groom some sage advice.
Ceremony & Reception
Now for the most important part of the day - the ceremony. I will, of course, be there to capture everything. Walking down the aisle, the big kiss, the officiant speaking, musicians playing, and family and friends listening/watching. I will also document your entire reception, complete with all those big -- and small -- moments that must be caught on film and all those fun and heartfelt moments, from tearful and hilarious toasts, cutting the cake, mad dancing skills and beyond.
My style is very casual and unposed, however, of course I will do formal portraits if your nan wants a nice picture of everyone to hang on her wall (standard). I like to do a mix of both casual and traditional for the group family shots. I'll then get those obligatory shots of both bridesmaids and groomsmen, gorgeous bridal portraits, handsome pics of the groom before I take you both away to capture what is probably the first time you are alone since becoming Mr & Mrs (I don't count because I turn into a ninja at this point).
Rest assured I'll capture all those little details you have planned as well. You spent good money planning-- maybe making -- them so I'll be sure to capture them; I'm here to make sure it's documented beautifully. I'll photograph the tiniest details on your wedding favours, the sugary flower ornaments on your cake, the lanterns hanging in the trees and anything else you thoughtfully included.
